New York Pigment Company is a new retail space for color, research, workshops, and exhibitions. We envision this shop as a meeting place to share information and open new ways of studying and seeing color.

We are Roger Danilo Carmona and Rachael Fischer. Roger was General Manager for Kremer Pigments for nearly two decades, and Rachael worked for 11 years as the Assistant Manager. Our work there was assisting countless artists, craftspersons, luthiers, and conservators with technical questions, workshops, and product advice. In-person access to raw art materials and a space to talk about them is a necessity for artists. New York Pigment Company is for anyone that wants to know more about their materials.

    TEAM

    Roger Danilo Carmona

CEO, Go-founder Artist, Teacher (MFA, Bard College)

Roger Danilo Carmona is an artist, colorman, and teacher based in New York City since 2002. Born in Nicaragua and raised in Hialeah, FL, he creates improvisational paintings that function as visual memory systems, with exhibitions at Gladstone Gallery, Tiger Strikes Asteroid, and Galeria Sasamina in Italy. His practice is inseparable from his nearly twenty years as the General Manager of Kremer Pigments NYC. Following the store's 2025 closure, Carmona is recognized as a fundamental figure in the city's painting community, described in the recent Hyperallergic tribute "Remembering the Pigment Shop That Taught Me How to See" as "one of the most trusted paint experts in New York City." A vocal advocate for material literacy, he discussed egg tempera techniques for Jarrett Earnest's exhibition The Young and Evil at David Zwirner and appears in Pascale Bouhénic's documentary Mark Rothko, la peinture vous regarde (Arte).

    Rachael Fischer

Creative Director, Co-founder Artist, Teacher (MA Education, Brooklyn College)

Rachael Fischer brings together philosophies from a lifelong studio practice, combined with over a decade of materials study, baking, and teaching experience. Born and raised in Franklin Park, NJ, she is an SVA alumnus with a BFA in Painting. She synthesized her hands-on skills as a gifted cook and was professional baker at Grandaisy Bakery and others for 8 years. She also earned an MA in K-12 Art Education. She has since taught hands-on paint-making classes for adults, which balance sensory exploration with material history. Rachael has a special interest in recipe development. She employs acute attention to detail to troubleshoot paint formulas and applications. For 11 years as a key specialist at Kremer Pigments, Rachael produced high-quality hand-made watercolors and lead technical workshops and demonstrations.
